Caine’s Arcade Review

Almost everyone I know is a blogger these days, but that doesn’t mean they are a good storyteller.

After watching Nirvan Mullick’s short film Caine’s Arcade, it reminds me of how powerful great storytelling can be. Further, it reminds me how quality content trumps quantity, how video on the Internet is still king and how memorable stories can become when we feel somehow connected to the main character.

Enjoy!

Non-speculative Digital Marketing Stuff – April 2012

Microsoft Translator Adds Hmong
Google Translate and Microsoft Translator are very useful add-ons for any website that serves consumers with various native tongues. On the main site I manage, we recently made the switch from Google Translate to Microsoft Translator, mainly because Microsoft added Hmong to its lengthy list of languages. Both seem to work equally well, but Microsoft also has a nice bar overlay across the top which I think is better for consumers. Now I just hope one of them also adds Somali.

The Mobile Web Exploding
According to an article on MobileMarketer.com, 95% of smartphone owners use their phone to search the web. Thus the importance of a mobile optimized site is further increasing. Additionally, the article says that last year, 1-800-Flowers revamped its mobile site to ease the buying process (see story). As a result, they saw an increase in conversion rates of 25 percent and a 53 percent reduction in shopping cart abandonment. Pretty amazing stuff!

YouTube – Choose your own Adventure Games
People are finding new creative ways to use YouTube’s annotation links that link to other videos. The most interesting I’ve seen is a Saved By The Bell game that allows you to choose the what happens next.  I’ve posted the video below for your enjoyment. I am curious to see if others can somehow use this same concept of jumping around various videos to allow users even more control of the video content they want to watch.
