A Twitter Happy Future

Blogging well is difficult. It takes time, energy, resources and a good editor. Pressed for time, I realized that some of my postings were starting to get sloppy.

For some time, I thought this was alright. Many other bloggers have set the precedent that on the quality vs. quantity scale, quality wins. As a professional marketer, I can no longer allow this to happen.

I have decided to change my focus to sharing information I like on Twitter, the quick and convenient micro-blogging platform.

I still plan to post here once in  a while. And contrary to popular belief a lot of information can be passed on with 140 characters and a link. I hope future blog posts will be more insightful and well written.

Why does GenY love to blog?

Perhaps we aren’t all enamored by the sound of our voice, but the sound of our fingers stroking the keyboard, well that’s a different story. Growing up with parents who taught us to form our own opinions and yet be unafraid to speak up – combined with a megaphone we call the Internet – it’s no surprise GenY lives in a world full of tweets, uploaded photos, foursquare check-ins and status updates.

We all love to blog for various reasons, but at the end of the day, what is it? Twenty somethings are in the middle of professional and self discovery. Who are we? What do we like? Why do we like it?

Call it introspective, call it being a mental head case, but whatever it is – GenY loves to think aloud, even if our introspective thoughts are put out there for the world to read. Writing things down is therapeutic and since we are all going through the same things, why not share it.

As a marketing communications professional, I find reading blogs useful and interesting. I offer a huge thank you for those who care to share. Keep the introspective thoughts flowing. It will only make you more solidly rooted in the direction your life and career are headed.

So GenY – what drives to you blog?

President Obama”Joins the Conversation”and Embraces Social Media

President Obama in Office

President Obama in Office

President Obama used social media to raise money and awareness during his campaign towards the presidency. It should then be no surprise that he has continued his social media outreach with a white house blog and weekly video blog. On his blog, which isn’t really written by him, you’ll find updates of what he is doing and copies of remarks given at various events, press briefings and meetings. It should be an interesting chronicle of his daily activities. You can even subscribe to his rss feed. A few bloggers might disagree with my analysis of this blog,  but I think this is a start in the right direction for a more transparent presidency. The move is actually one of many that shows Obama wants to reach out to new audiences. His first sit down television interview was the Al-Arabiya, which sub sequentially opened up many more opinions about his actions. What do you think about the president’s latest attempts to “join the conversation?” Do you think the nation will listen?
